Earlier this week, we posted a review of a great new disc from GRIZ titled 'My Evolution'. Today we're proud to follow that up with an interview with the man himself and a further installment of the Voc Rox series of interviews first started by our own Tom777.

Tinfoil: LIFE HAS BEEN DIFFICULT AND YOU’VE SEEN A LOT OF SHIT. WHAT DROVE YOU THROUGH THE ADVERSITY?

Griz: Faith

T: EXPANDING ON SPIRITUAL AWAKENING, WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED? WHAT LESSONS ARE YOU HOPING THE LISTENER WILL LEARN AFTER HEARING THIS DISC?

G: I have learned that no matter how deep the struggle GOD is carrying us through it… As far as the listener I hope they learn that life is a constant battle between good and evil and only the strong survive. I hope that the weak can look to my album for strength and the strong can use my album as a tool to understand how to use their strength. I hope that one day we can all help each other… we can all learn from one anothers mistakes… together we can overcome the evil that is slowly deteriorating our world.

T: YOU SAY THAT IN YOUR BIO YOU CAN HONESTLY NOW SAY I WISH I HAD DONE A FEW THINGS DIFFERENTLY IN MY PAST BUT I WAS IN THE MINDFRAME THAT I HAD TO DO WHAT I HAD TO DO TO SURVIVE. THAT DOSEN’T STRIKE ME AS A GRIZ STATEMENT. DO YOU REGRET THINGS YOU HAVE DONE IN THE PAST KNOWING THAT WITHOUT THOSE CHOICES YOU MAY NOT BE THE PERSON YOU ARE TODAY?

G: Let’s get one thing straight GRIZ loves being GRIZ. When I say I regret things I’ve done in the past it has nothing to do with me being who I am today. I regret personal things like leaving home at age 15 and leaving my mother alone. I was selfish and did not think how it was going to affect her by losing her son. I regret not being home for my little brother who needed his older brother… he became addicted to the devil heroin… I feel if I was there I could have saved him from that hell… I realize now that what helped my mother get off medication and my little brother get off of the drugs was nothing more than love. I don’t regret who I am I regret hurting those I love.

T: YOU’RE A SELF TITLED BAD-ASS MOTHERFUCKER, TATTOOED BIKER. WHAT IS THE BAD-ASS RIDING CURRENTLY?

G: I ride a Harley Davidson Deuce. I want to get a Billy Lane as soon as I can afford one. Jessie built a bike for Kid Rock so I think Billy should build a bike for GRIZ.

T: YOU SEEM TO BE A RIGHTEOUS MAN, CREDIT GOD WITH A LOT. WHO LED YOU TO HIM?

G: Life led me to him; for he is the truth and it was the truth that set me free. When I found GOD I was able to forgive and once I was able to forgive I was once again able to breath. I have walked earth, seen heaven and touched hell and GOD has been there to walk the earth by my side, allow me to look into the heavens through his eyes and carry me through my hell.

T: YOUR FAVORITE TATTOO?

G: My favorite tattoo is my back piece. It is a portrait of a mother and father angels carrying their child to heaven through the middle of my back and it is surrounded by all types of angels and the heavens. It symbolizes that GOD put our children on this earth for us to care for them and they need us to carry them to heaven and if we don’t they will have a greater chance to fall into the devils temptations. I also love my sleeve which is a whole bunch of skulls, dragons, evil faces and darkness which start with my birth name on my wrist and ends with a grizzly bear screaming on my upper arm and shoulder. It represents the skeletons in my closet and the hell I went through from birth to become GRIZ.

T: LATEST CD YOU BOUGHT THAT JUST SURPRISED THE FUCK OUT OF YOU FOR BEING SO DAMN GOOD?

G: Linkin Parks first CD… I feel that every song was strong and I love their passion. I feel that they talk about real life, real feelings that I can relate to.

T: YOUR OPINION ON THE MUSIC INDUSTRY TODAY. IS THE INTERNET KILLING IT OR MAKING IT STRONGER?

G: As far as the music industry today I feel it sucks. I feel that it’s to much about business and not enough about the artist and the music!!!!!!!! As far as the internet I feel that it has helped the music industry tremendously. It is one of the greatest marketing tools we have. It allows our fans to sit in the comfort of their own home and learn about the artist, talk to the artist, and listen to the music. It allows us, the artist, to become more personal with our fans and gives us the opportunity to listen to them so we know what they want. The internet gives our fans a voice that we can hear. On the other hand I do not believe in downloading albums because it hurts the artist not only financially but it doesn’t give us the opportunity to continue to put out our music because if the label doesn’t make enough money on the artist than the artist will be dropped. If you love our music and respect our art than go buy the album and support us.

Many thanks to GRIZ and Elly London at Fan2Fan for setting up this interview
