Tell us about your origin.... MM: It started with High School talent expos. First High School bands, things like that. I remember that we rehearsed for weeks and weeks, and I had everything planned months in advance. Even had a friend build a guitar that I'd smash after we played. He filled this body of a guitar made from plaster with 2 pounds of flour packed inside of it, so you had this explosion after I thrashed it. It was hilarious. The kids went crazy and the high school banned us from playing there again ... as the whole auditorium stage was covered in flour for the next few days and the janitors would point me out in crowds as I walked to (the) stage, ha. It was fun. Beginnings of Metal Mike, ha ha. 2. How do you approach songwriting? What/who inspires/influences you? How do you go about writing tunes? MM: Well, I suppose just things around me ... that's the lyrical approach. I don't write about dragons and crap like that, because well, you know, unless you are DIO, you sound like an idiot. So .... musically, everything I listen to, I take a note of, anything I like .... later it's mixed up in my mind somewhat with alcohol and you got some songs. I try not to analyze it. If a riff makes me wanna headbang ... its good enough to record. That's all I ever cared about. 3. Favorite musical gear? MM: Jackson RR1 "Rhandy Rhoads" flying V. I fell in love with these guitars since the first day I saw them. And, Marshall stuff. Anything, Pre-Amps, Heads, Cabinets. I love to look behind me and see Marshall stacks, logos, period. 4. Favorite song from your discography (if you had to pick only one)? Most memorable show? MM: Oh, I don't know ... about songs, there is quite a few by now, ha ha. Many great ones to come as well. I like "PainmuseuM (Metal For Life)" song from the new PainmuseuM album, I just released. See: www.cdbaby.com/metalmike. Most memorable show? Madison Square Garden .... incredible legendary venue, my family was there, the whole things- you know. I also took the locker of Michael Jordan, as I guess the team played the night before us. It was fun. I love New York as well. 5. What do you say to the kids, the wanna-bes out there jamming in the garage? MM: Metal is what's in your heart. Play the things that make you feel good, and forget other people's opinions. Lastly .... Lit, Sum 41, Dave Growl are not, were not, and NEVER will be Metal .... no matter how much they talk about. Live Metal Eternal and screw the posers !!!! 6: If you and Pat Lachman took on Glenn Tipton and KK Downing in a no-holds-barred steel cage match, who'd win? MM: Nobody. But, can tell you this .... Me and KK would start the "Flying V Charity for Non-Metal Musicians" that would turn confused souls into Metallers and Pat and Glenn, well ... you would have to ask them yourself. Thanks to METAL MIKE CHLASCIAK for taking the time to answer our GARAGE VOX questions.
