The Dillengers represent a sure hope for tomorrow by remembering the best of yesterday. Just pick up a copy of INSTRO-MANIA or LIVE AT ELWOODS and you will hear the hip 60’s influences, tasty tremolo, twangy Fender riffs, and all things surftastic. The Dillengers equal a refreshing listen- they are light-years away from the safe-list-shackled “hits” played on your local lock-stepping “Z-rock" channel.

And you know the world needs more Surfabilly Cowpunk Crimejazz… The band puts out a lotta reverberating sonic love to be just three members strong: Rick Rossano (strings), Charlie Gonzalez (Bass strings), and George Anderson (Drums). The band’s bio gives the 411:

Upon listening you'll find The Dillengers' music stylings to be more akin to what it might have sounded like had Ennio Morricone fronted the Circle Jerks with the curse of Link Wray hanging over their heads than to that of the more "traditional" style surf / instrumental groups of the past. When asked what the term "Surf Culture" meant to them Rick replied: "I think 'Surf Culture' just refers to people who dig real, straight from the heart music and deal with life from a simpler, 'normal guy' kind of perspective." This is an ethos that one can quickly identify when listening to the rawness and energy of their music. The approach is a simple one: three guys, some electricity, reverb, and an endless supply of influences and inspirations. In the end the sounds they create are so vivid and visual it's like being marooned on a beach in some weird western spy flick.

The story continues in early 2002 when somehow, someway through the course of friends and friends of friends, their demo ended up in the hands of legendary guitarist and Favored Nations label owner Steve Vai, he instantly took a shine to the boys, their sound, and their story. The rest is as they say is history. …

Let’s step into the Garage with frontman Rick Rossano:

1.What was your first gig- the first time you got up in front of bunch of folks and did your thing?

A pool party in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We had a terrible garage band that played Stones, Blue Cheer and Steppenwolf songs. I was 11. How can you play a Blue Cheer song wrong??

2.How do you approach songwriting (what/who inspires you, and how do you go about writing tunes)?

I blatantly steal from and I listen to tons of different kinds of music - I hope it filters out of my guitar somehow.

3. Favorite musical gear?

Anything Fender. Anything with tubes. Anything sparkly and hideous.

4.Your favorite songs to do live?

Movie themes gone horribly wrong.

5.What do you say to the dreamers who are out there jamming in the garage?

Louder, Faster, etc.

6. Tell us about the site, the summer tour, and about what the future holds....

http://www.dillengers.com ; up & down the Southeast until we can find an agent/manager who can do better.

Optional cheesy bonus question: who has the best chicken, gravy, and biscuits?

Home-Made Bar-be-Que & Ice Cream in Ft. Lauderdale - their cornbread is just stupifying.

Many thanks to Rick for his time!
