A little background on TAXI. Simply put, they are a screening service made up of A&R execs (for a list of some of the big names, click here) that go through each and every submission as if it were a submission to their own record company. So, right off the bat you are guaranteed a listen by some record company exec, and that's a good thing. Probably the greatest advantage to getting hooked up with TAXI is that they actually know where to send the music. They have the contacts within the companies that most people only claim to have. They actually get record companies calling them looking for something specific. Something specific that TAXI is only too willing to provide them. Yes, this is a good thing! How do they do all this? I am glad you asked. TAXI has been around for over a decade doing this very thing. They started out before there was a World Wide Web. They started out in the basement like many bands. They grew slowly, with attention paid to the details, to where they are today. In 1995 they opened up their website and just prior to that they had an AOL site. But that doesn't count, because AOL is sux. They didn't grow so fast that artists got lost in the mix. Now, before you go rushing off to the TAXI website let me warn you, that this is not free. Of course not, they have to feed their family too. A 1 year subscription for all of TAXI's benefits is only $299.95. A 2 year membership is $499.95, and a 3 year membership is just $599.95. A bit steep you say? Stop whining. Try and do this yourself and you will be willing to pay 2x as much by the time you finally contact TAXI. That being said, the TAXI website has many valuable services that are indeed free. Things such as the Musicians Referral service, a vast number of great articles written by record company execs, bands and others who have been there and done that. They even have a list of the current goings on within TAXI and the industry. Just the sort of things you would get access to if YOU signed up. So, if you are a musician, and you actually want to make money then you owe it to yourself to CHECK OUT TAXI. They are a very friendly group and definitely know more about the industry that I could ever wish to claim I know. And I like to claim I know alot. Just ask my wife. Tin Add your comment
