Start a record label- that's what. Here's quick down and dirty overview of the label, courtesy of Lee Gutowski.... 1. Explain the origin and concept behind Bloodshot Records.... Rob Miller and Nan Warshaw were bored and disillusioned with music they heard played on the radio, both rock and country. There was tons of good music, made right here in Chicago by local bands, that they felt was far more rockin'. They wanted to give that music a chance to be heard, so they decided to do a compilation disc of a lot of these local (as well as regional bands from other areas) musicians. The first release was going to be a one-off, but as you can see, it kinda spiralled and parlayed into something much bigger! 2. Whos on the label? People who have made records on Bloodshot: Neko Case, Ryan Adams, Alejandro Escovedo, Robbie Fulks. People who are putting out records this year on Bloodshot: Bobby Bare, Jr., Graham Parker, Jon Langford (Waco Bros., Mekons), Split Lip Rayfield, Rex Hobart & the Misery Boys .... More: Kelly Hogan, Sally Timms (Mekons), Trailer Bride, the Sadies, Rico Bell (Mekons), the Meat Purveyors ... 3. Who should an American-based wanna-be artist or band contact if they have a demo?
