What does one expect from Reeves Gabrels, the man who re-ignited David Bowie's career with his viscious guitar work in the band Tin Machine? What does one possibly say about the new disc, "Rockonica", that can possibly sum it up?
Reeves new solo release opens with "Sign from God" which, like all the songs, features Reeves in the role of both vocalist and guitarist. Reeves displays exceptional skills in both roles, but it is his guitar playing that steals the show. With an ear for writing tight, catchy, beat-driven songs, he is able to stretch out into uncharted sonic territory, laying down kaliedoscopic textures of rhythm and blazing leads with an alien sense of sound.
From the first pick-scrape to the final echo of feedback, Gabrels flawlessly fuses a sophisticated sense of composition with raw elements of heavy rock & techno-electronica with a naked emotionalsim and fearless sense of experimentation.
This is music you can move to, and music that demands your attention.
This CD is a must for any serious guitar player and highly recommended for lovers of eclectic rock music. Learn more about Reeves Gabrels at his web-site or visit Favored Nations.
