Warning: This CD is not for everyone. In fact, it's probably far too powerful for you, so stop reading now and listen to something safe.

For good or bad, the 1990s (and into the early 2000s) may well be remembered as the Extreme Generation (X-games, extreme sports, extreme cola, extreme this that and the other). There is plenty of music to serve as soundtrack for such extremes, but in the inner circle of what would be known as "extreme musicians", there are only a handful who could claim the title of Rulers of the Wasteland. Were the Extreme Band to be put together, there would be one bass player certain to be jamming forth, and his name is Kyle Honea.

"The Watermelon Monster", Kyle's latest indy release, will make you a believer. Kyle's incredible technique is couched in tasty grooves and interesting progressions, but you never forget that this is a work designed to serve up the bass guitar on a silver platter, pushing the boundaries of what is expected - and accepted - from the modern rock bassist.

The all-too-brief collection (5 songs) features titles like "Caterpillar" and "One Laughing Alien", and finds Kyle ripping mercilessly through sweeped arpeggios, wispy harmonics, wild string bends, harmonized lines, blazing taped runs, and brutalized scales. If this guy ever gets a manager, he's gonna be rich!

"The Watermelon Monster" definitely earns "must buy" status! For more info, visit Kyle on-line.
