The year: 1983

What's up?: The NES is released in Japan.

Why am I stating this: because I can :D

Random Fact: Super Mario Bros. is the best selling game ever. Wikipedia says so anyway...

Point?: It introduces stuff.

Stuff like, Super Mario has spawned sequels. Videogames have spawned people that thought the music in videogames sucked, so they decided to make it better.

I'm here to spread the word about videogame remix music. What better way to do that than to periodically (once a month) give you some random remix to listen to?

Being it December and the holiday season, I thought I'd start you all off with something holiday-ish. The song is...

Super Mario Sleigh Ride.

This piece was brought together by Dale North and Mustin of the OneUp Mushrooms. It takes the classic Super Mario World tunes, spread throughout the whole piece, and tosses it in a blender with the classic Christmas song, Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson. Add some light mixing and you've got a videogame remix for you general December holiday needs.

Sleigh Ride is persistent throughout the entire tune, with Super Mario taking more of a background sound. Samples are taken here and there in the beginning, while in the middle its is lain as the harmony as the main cords of Sleigh Ride are played over it. The song ends with almost a battle between the two parts. If you've ever died in a Mario game, you'll understand the horn signaling the end of the song at 3:07-3:08, other wise it will sound somewhat off.

Note: Scroll down and leave a comment on the song and wether you'd like to see more random recommendations (although this one was less random)
