Also, 2 way ties in the third and fourth place ranking. Crazyness. So placements on the front page, random reviews, talk of the Final Fantasy Tactics song with lyrics and its suck, and the Random VGmix chosen to show that lyrics in a Video game remix need to be done with caution (it's a good song, I wouldn't give the readers crap. Then again I don't know if I am or not because I DON'T GET ANY COMMENTS!! I want the comments. #1 - Ryan8bit - Solstice - Catacombs Beneath the Twilight #2 - Tackle - Shantae - Shantae's Shagtastic Showdown #3 - Master-Hatchet - Raiden 2 - Amethyst Artillery #3 - Stemage, chunkstyle - Actraiser - Teddy's Bread First things first, the only game I've played of the games in the top 3 (four if you want to go by number of songs) is Raiden 2, so as I write this I have no idea what to expect from each song. So me being me, I decided to find what these games were about. I did some googling. VGMuseum.com was found, and though loaded with pop-ups, they provided some clues to what the games were about. If you wanna look, go for it, but I warned you about the pop-ups. (Solstice is an NES game if you want to look into it) Catacombs Beneath the Twilight sounds nothing like it title indicates. Upbeat guitar work is the majority of the song, but it is some good guitar work. The drums need a little toning down IMO, but overall a good song. I would say more, but like I said, never played any of these games (makes me wonder why I'm writing at all, but news in the VGMix world is small at the moment). (Shantae is a Gameboy COLOR game) Arabic guitar. Can't describe it too much better. Sorry if I offend anyone, just writing what I hear. The synth notes add a nifty quirk to the song here and there, you can't miss them. The song could use a little more variety, and a little more flare, but otherwise deserving of position #2 (Raiden2 is an Arcade game, but it won't be found on VGMuseum, I recommend google o.O) Amethyst Artillery, despite its creative title, didn't take enough creative variety to the song. you can here the main themes way too clearly, making this more of an instrumental do-over than a VGRemix. Its understandable because in DOD the rules state you have to play your own instruments. Perhaps lack of talent to do more difficult riffs or fingering. In anycase, it does do justice to the game, just start imagining flying around in a Bright red fighter jet, Blue if you're into playing player 2, armed with a bazillion (felt appropriate) different weapon systems that could never fight on such a small craft blowing the crap out of anything that appears in front of you I refuse to write about Act Raiser, the song is nothing special and no idea what the game is about, on about, or about about. (yay for filling white space) Couple songs to note in the mix. Ranger-X-Tetris Song A, yay for Tetris remixes. Too bad it didn't place higher, the mini guitar solo in the middle compliments the main tune nicely, but was the only main variation. Rexy - Katamari Damacy - Katamari on the Rags. Katamari is becoming more and more remixed. Rexy did a piano piece, something the DOD'ers are not used to apparently: it placed #13. Clocking in at over seven minutes probably didn't help too much either. In the Alternate section: CarboHydroM - Starfox 64 - Starfox Forever Starfox 64 had to be the best game I have ever played on N64. Hearing all those quotes was quite refreshing. The lyrics are hard to hear, but don't detract from the tune in anyway, unlike some remixed songs that I will talk about here in about two paragraphs. West Coast Shizzies - Final Fantasy 4 - MAGLess in Seattle MAGLess in Seattle (Overworld Rave Glowstick MegaPartyMix 2K6) is the official title, but too long for even me to want to read. Just a generic solo of the overworld theme. Now onto Lyrics in VGMixes and why they should be used only if you can sing, and only if it works with the tune being played. The Final Fantasy Tactics tune (you can find it yourself, I'm not listing that crap) has lyrics, and completely kill the song. If you can't sing don't. If a song is not meant to have lyrics to it, don't put them in. If a song does have lyrics and you want to remix it, take the lyrics out or leave them alone. If you want to put lyrics into a song, make sure you know what you are doing. Put the song up in a works in progress setting for people to reflect on how the lyrics make the song better, (or worse, but can be improved upon). Finally Random VGmix, complements of the http://www.ocremix.org library. Mega Man X Dreams Come True - Star Salzman Yes the song has lyrics, yes the singer is somewhat good at singing, yes the songs lyrics add to the song, don't know if it was WIP'ed, but sounds like it is. The Capcom theme Blip is a good add in the middle there. Listen, Enjoy, Dontcareaboutmyid done. Add your comment
