Be thankful for his gifts. More should be written and said about this conquistador of power metal. If he's new to you, go get yourself a copy of Bruce Dickinson's "The Chemical Wedding," or get your hands on Halford's "Crucible." There are more examples I could list... not to mention the band called Tribe of Gypsies. Any over-30 type can remember the American Metal scene in the mid-80's before it imploded due to MTV flash- in the days before it became a cardboard caricature of itself- before it became cliché and just plain boring. Roy Z seems to get it. He knows what Metal should be, and he works with artists like Halford and Dickinson to create pure sonic art. The music doesnt sound recycled or tired with his production. Roy is an accomplished fret burner. He's played on Bruce's solo stuff (like Balls to Picasso, Accident of Birth), worked live without a net on Scream for Me Brazil, and on Bruce's BEST OF . If you have never heard Roy Z and Maiden's Adrian "H" Smith pair up to create total tonal demolition, you are absolutely missing arguably the greatest guitar combo of the 21st century. H and Z must harmonize more often, lads. Somebody yelled, Bob Rock? No, I said, Roy Z.... And did we mention that Roy is producing the new Priest album? See what we mean? This guy is what the industry needs. He is the Santa Claus of Heaviness. And he has established rivet-head cred. We tried to get in touch with Roy for a ROCK VOX interview in 2004. Let's hope Roy Z can catch a break in 2005 so that Tinfoil Music can snag a chat. Post up your comments. Let's get his attention. His official site is under construction right now: http://www.royz.net/ If you havent already- switch to Channel Z. Add your comment
