After a nearly complete rewrite, version 0.6.0 of the PlayFair free software project is back online. The maintainer of the project and the hosting service are both willing to face legal action from Apple.

The project is renamed Hymn, according to the project maintainer Anand Babu. The software is on two sites being hosted by US hosting companies. Previously the project started at SourceForge.net in the US. After Apple threatened legal action through the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the project was moved to a host in India. The new US-based hosts are well aware of the DMCA and the Digital Rights Management (DRM) issues and are prepared to defend the software against Apple.

PlayFair is software that strips away theFairPlay DRM from AAC encoded songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store, provided that the correct key is available. The purpose of this software is to allow users who purchase music from the store to listen to their music on non-Apple products and software.
