It has been years since Microsoft has really innovated, and their new "Wallop" social networking portal is no exception. MS takes a pre-existing idea and tries to improve on it. Sometimes it works, like the XBox, and sometimes it dies, like their original Tablet PC. To be fair, MS is hardly the first to try and duplicate MySpace.

Wallop is a spin of MySpace, though it takes a different approach to make money. Where MySpace has advertising on the page, users will have to pay small amounts ranging from $0.99 to $4.00 to customize their page. Some plugins, however, will be free.

The service, for now, is invite only. If you have one, drop one on me so I can check it our. tinfoil -AT- gmail -DOT- com.

No word yet on if this new approach will save us from the downright fugliness that is 90% of the MySpace profiles in existance. Unlike mine, which is the very definition of clean lines and classy design. What, you mean you haven't added me to your friends list? For shame!
