SFGate reports that an entertainment group in Japan representing some 23 TV stations and entertainment companies has asked GooTube to improve its system for detecting copyright infringement PDQ, please and thanks. Currently GooTube removes any content that violates copyright when it is pointed out to them, which is consistant with the Safe Harbour provision in the DMCA. The GooTube also uses audio fingerprinting to detect possible copyright infringing content. This isn't good enough, so sayeth the Japanese copyright holders. The Japanese reportedly have not been forthcoming with any viable suggestions, no doubt trying to take advantage of the "Sombody Elses Problem " field. The one suggestion made by the Japanese was a preliminary screening system. They didn't detail this, but yours truly believes it would involve one thousand monkeys and a killer whale.
