The EFF fights a fight that many Americans don't understand. They fight against face-recognition software, they fight against a nation-wide ID card. They fought long and hard against the USA-PATRIOT act which would have given law enforcement agencies free reign over electronic surveilance. The judge could not refuse the order to monitor your web browsing activities; only record the order. The EFF has fought long and hard for consumer rights against the likes of the RIAA and the MPAA. They are the ultimate watchdog group in the states in these digital times. Government is a few steps behind in their understanding of technology and the EFF has made it their job to educate them before they sign away all your rights. It was the EFF that got the States to consider your e-mail a protected form of communication along with telephone conversations and postal mail. It was also the EFF that forced the government to ease restrictions on the export of high encryption, a move that has had great benefits in the world of e-commerce.
