Three university students in Australia are facing serious consequences to their alleged piracy: jail time and hefty fines.

All three students were associated with MP3WMAland, a website operated on borrowed webspace. Charles Ng operated the site, Peter Tran assisted Ng in website operations and Tommy Le for distributing compilation tracks. Le will not face jail time and Tran will likely get a light sentence.

Ng is to face up to AUS$60,500 and up to 5 years in jail.

The fines are light because the prosecutors in the case did not ask for costs, something the recording industry thinks it is entitled to.
