| Bavaria bans MP3-Players in schools |

The whole debate sparked when images and videos of a pornographic and violent nature were found on a young students mobile phone. Now the Bavarian government also wants to ban MP3-Players, seeing that features such as USB-OTG allow the sharing of such content on the go. Colour displays also allow the display of such content immediately without having to hook the device up to a computer. Music devices and mobile phones are now devices that are part of our everyday lives; this is also true for students SPD educational expert Hans-Ulrich Pfaffmann emphasized. Its important that these devices are used sensibly this has to be an educational goal. Another expert commented: MP3 players are two by five centimeters in size. Do we plan on doing strip searches in future or installing metal detectors in our schools? The planned bans are unrealistic, unpedagogical and absurd. I personally doubt that this policy will have any success, especially seeing the amount of players available out there today. For one it is hard to recognize a player unless you are an expert and finding them is also an issue. Some of the smallest devices out there today measure one inch cubed (e.g. Mobiblu DAH1500 aka Cube). Seeing that many players are also UMS, they are a popular means of transporting presentations made at home to school. Some of the teachers I know even use their mp3 players for transporting data. Sometimes you really have to wonder what politicians are thinking when they propse these laws. Source: Süddetsche Zeitung - Bayern 8./9.
