Nike has had a long, but certainly not illustrious, history with Philips. Nike and Philips didn't acheive much success and didn't even brand the Philips puck-player. Nike has moved on to bigger and, hopefully, better things with everyone's favorite company: Apple.

Nike and Apple have come together to form some sort of relationship with the Nano and some Nike shoes.

You need three things: Nike+ shoes, a Nano, and, of course, the new Sport Kit.
Essentially, the Nano's Nike screen will show you the miles, pace, song, and total time. The center button automatically goes to your "power song" - the one "that always gets you through the home stretch." Personally, my "power song" is the Rocky theme song "Eye of the Tiger" ... ok, not really, but its a good example. It also gives you "voice feedback". Not exactly sure what that entails. Maybe its Bobby Knight yelling "You ****ing suck! Run faster, you worthless piece of ****!" ... or maybe its just some boring voice telling you your pace and whatnot.

Also, Nike created Nikeplus.com which will keep your stats with a nice graphical interface. Itunes music store will also feature nike-branded content including sport/workout mixes, "athlete inspirations" and sports podcasts.

Basically, to make it work, you put the sensor into the left shoe (there's a special pocket) and then attach the receiver to the Nano.

Surprisingly, I like this concept. Could be pretty useful if you are an avid runner. Not yet available for pre-order, but it is supposed to retail for a very reasonable $29.99.

Personally, I think it's pretty damned stupid, but I'm not paid to think -- Tin
