note: just felt like using the pirates tag Back to trying to pick out those source tunes. It states in the description that Final Fantasy 5,7,8,9 and some Chrono Trigger are in there. The Track is all over the place, not that that's a bad thing. So far I've gotten the following tunes picked out that make themselves known: FF5, Clash on the Bridge, Black Mages Zeromus (not sure, FF7, JENOVA FF8 Force your way, Maybe I'm a Lion, FF9, victory fanfare. I know there is more in there, but I can't pick it up. I asked over at VGMix and when I get a response, I'll add a reply with the official tunes. Starts with FF5 intro, breaks into Clash on the bridge, along with those ska undertones (guitar sounds ska-ish, don't quote me on my knowledge of ska), don't know (although it sounds vaguely like JENOVA), FF8 Zeromus , Force your way, slows down into something I don't know, but sounds like something pulled out of Chrono Trigger, I think the instrument is a ukulele. Next is some good organ work, along with the ska guitar undertone. The slow stuff ends and goes into FF8 maybe I'm a Lion, then some crazy stuff which I don't know. Ends it all off with the traditional Final Fantasy Victory music, taken from Final Fantasy 9, possibly 5. When I first heard it, it went straight into my PSP for future car listening. Great work. Second Place was XMark with The Battle of Alefguard, remade from Dragon Warrior. I found the piece to be too long and epic sounding, but the quality of it all makes up for it. That and I am a really big sucker for woodwinds and good acoustics. Never Played Dragon Warrior, so I don't know what tunes are used. Starts off with solo Acoustic the breaks into the keyboard strings. I don't know what he was thinking putting those horns in there. It doesn't last more than a couple minutes at least before getting back into the acoustics *swoon*. It then goes into some low strings, and samples a little woodwinding. I stopped here because I missed my acoustics and didn't have the attention span to keep listening. It happens and you've been warned if you decide to sample it yourself. 3rd place was Eternal Wind by Select Start from Final Fantasy 3. I'm sorry to say I don't know the source tune, for I've never played FF3. I can tell you, the instruments actually sound like instruments being played, instead of keyboarded. Good sounding strings, good guitar and piano work, and the solo flute (i believe) is well played, if a little over bearing. Near 3:20 the song breaks into the prelude of all Final Fantasy games (solo piano). Very Very VERY well done. Solo Violin (i believe), 4:00 minutes in the song gets its folk on. An interesting twist to say the minimal. Probably the place people will get mixed feelings on the song. Note worthy was the number 4 song. Played by Norg, titled Zeboimite Ascention, it was the only song that remixed something in Xenogears. It's hard to find good Zenogears stuff, and this was a good one. Little slow, but good. For shits and giggles, I dl'ed the number 18 song, for the sole reason I have never heard a Pokemon VGremix before. I now know why I've never listened to a pokemon VGremix before. It wasn't horrible, but the quality and variety were lacking greatly. Pokemon need more love in the VGRemix department. Final DoD thoughts. Final Fantasy dominated the list of remixes. That makes me somewhat sad at the lack of variety. Hopefully we'll see some branching out/risk taking as next month's DoD theme is a free month. Add your comment
